sketching on the couch

So whilst I'm nutting out ideas for my runway/fashion icon girlies, I curled up on the couch to watch The Good Wife on Sunday night, but distracted myself with a sketchbook, a pencil, and a magazine. This is what happened.



I hadn't drawn faces in ages ~ I believe the one on the bottom right is visiting from another planet. :)

Bonjour!

Happy Bastille Day!

Unfortunately I am terribly unorganised today. I'm wearing green, eating mexican, and watching Australian reality shows, without a French flag (or even an accent) in sight. Unless they are cooking up a Coq Au Vin on MasterChef tonight, today will be very uncelebratory (actually ... they've already done that...). However, I shall make up for it on the weekend. I will have the lovely Amelie DVD to watch, and I'll at least make some French Toast if nothing better, and a promise to myself that I shall be much more Frenchy-chic this time next year. :)

Junichi Nakahara

Around 18 months ago I bought "100 Years of Fashion Illustration". I just *love* this book.

One of my favourite images is this one by Junichi Nakahara, c1960.


Perhaps not a typical fashion illustration? I adored the montage effect with the face on top so much, last year I was inspired to do a couple of my own versions, one based on a song (by Lisa Mitchell) and the other on Little Red Riding Hood.

What better way to start this blog's editorials than with the latest hottest Australian models. Vogue Australia (August) has this gorgeous feature on these 6 girls. There are several photos of each girl in the magazine, here are my faves.

I love the B&W's of Lauren Brown, but I think my favourite is Codie Young. Can you believe she's just 17? Or am I getting old ... don't answer that. ;)
